FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a worldwide organization consisting of four levels:
- FIRST® Lego League Jr. (FLL Jr., grades 1-3)
- FIRST® Lego League (FLL, grades 4-8)
- FIRST® Tech Challenge (FTC, grades 7-12)
- FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC, grades 9-12)
When you participate in FIRST®, a world of oppotunities open. There are endless possibilities to learn and grow your STEM, business, and techinical knowledge. There will be successes and failures as you work with a team to create robots that can lift, climb, throw, and carry, as well as create a business plan, and work within the local, national, and even international community to increase the awareness of STEM careers.
What is First® Robotics competition?
“The mission of FIRST® is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting Mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.”
We are participating in the FIRST® Robotics Competition, which involves building large, heavy-duty robots and is for students in high school. We believe that we can learn and teach STEM principles to ourselves and our community.
We have 6 weeks to design, build, and test our robot to meet the engineering and technical requirements set forth by FIRST®. Our business team also has 6 weeks to prepare a business plan, fundraise, and organize community, national, and worldwide outreach opportunities to promote STEM.
Once build season is complete, we go on to compete at district, regional, and world events against teams from across the globe.
